The reaction to OMG HD Zombies

Hi everyone.  OMG HD Zombies has been out for a couple of weeks now and so far the reaction has been very good.

I’d like to say thank you to everyone who’s reviewed OMG HD Zombies, posted about the game in forums or comment sections, told their friends about it or simply just bought and played the game.  I know it sounds cheesy but we really wouldn’t be able to make these games without you and knowing so many of you are out there enjoying our games really makes it all feel worthwhile.

Since the release of OMG HD Zombies we’ve been getting some great feedback from fans of the game on Facebook and Twitter and lots of people seem to be having a great time zombie slaying.  In fact some people seem to have racked up a truly impressive number of zombie kills.  For example at the time of writing the current leader, Langeflap-NL, has a whopping 327259 zombies killed.  By comparison I sit in 86th having managed a relatively paltry 57285 kills since the game was released.

It’s not just gamers who love OMG HD zombies either, as reviews have been very positive too.  PushSquare, for example, awarded it 8/10 saying:

“If you missed out on this clever take on the zombie apocalypse the first time around, then OMG HD Zombies is a must buy. The fresh undead types and overhauled visuals will offer something new for seasoned slayers, while the sheer satisfaction of the core gameplay loop will delight newcomers.”

The Sixth Axis also gave it 8/10, stating: “Overall OMG HD Zombies! is a great title by Laughing Jackal. The simple aesthetic hides a game that requires you to think before you act, and to conserve your supplies. When a chain is successful it feels great, and those rare occasions where you get 100% clearance are very satisfying.”

Shopto agreed, called OMG HD Zombies: “...the perfect quick play game for the Vita”

OMG HD Zombies is available now on the European PSN store for just €3.59 (£2.99) so if you haven’t already picked it up why not head to the PSN Store and enjoy the gore filled chain reactions of OMG HD Zombies.

In other news the PSM remake of our original mini the amazing Cubixx was recently selected in Pocketgamer’s list of the 20 best PlayStation Mobile games.  You can check out the full list here to see which other games Pocketgamer would recommend.   If that does inspire you to pick up the PlayStation Mobile version of Cubixx then the game can be found in the arcade section of the PlayStation Mobile Store.

That’s all for now.   I’ll be back next week, but until then you can join us on our Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google+  pages where we will be posting all the news from Laughing Jackal.

OMG HD Zombies! is out now on Vita

Hi everyone.  I hope you’re enjoying our latest Vita game OMG HD Zombies which was released yesterday in Europe for the great price of just €3.59 (£2.99)!   A quick word to our North American fans to say that I’m afraid we’re still working towards getting master approval for your version but we expect to have a release date very soon.

So, for those of you who have sampled the delights of zombie zapping on your Vita, what do you think of OMG HD Zombies so far?  Are the new zombies just as satisfying to blow up as the old ones?  I’m personally finding the runner zombies particularly handy at the moment as they seem to be very useful for spreading the destruction even further.

Since revealing that the zombies’ origin was a product of mad-science (which you will no doubt have seen in the expanded intro to the game), we thought we’d conduct a little experiment of our own.  So, we’ve got several test subjects tied up downstairs and...er...no, sorry…wrong experiment (#cough#)…I mean, we’ve set up a poll for you to vote for your favourite zombie from the game – which you can do here.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about and you’d like to know more about OMG HD Zombies then please check out the previous blog post here.

Moving swiftly on from the subject of bizarre scientific experiments, we’re very excited to report that everyone’s favourite, Hungry Giraffe, will be joining great games such as Little Big Planet and Wipeout 2048 in the recently announced PS Vita Mega Pack.  The bundle will contain 10 great games on an 8GB Memory Stick priced at a mouth watering €39.99.  You will also be able to pick up the whole pack as part of a bundle with the PS Vita console for just €249.99 in certain countries.  For more details please visit the PSN blog here.

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week, but until then you can join us on our Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google+  pages where we will be posting all the news from Laughing Jackal.

OMG HD Zombies gets a release date and trailer

Hi everyone.  As you may have seen on the European PSN Blog today I’m happy to tell you that OMG HD Zombies will be released on the 19th June in Europe priced at just €3.59 (£2.99).

For those of you who never experienced the simple joys of zombie-popping first time around, the zombie virus in OMG HD Zombies is the result of a virulent fungus that causes its zombified victims to EXPLODE when attacked.  That’s pretty cool in itself, but if any infected matter lands on another zombie then they explode too, causing a chain-reaction tsunami of gore!  Wise to this, your character is able to take down hordes of the undead with a single well-placed rifle round.

So, why remake OMG-Z?  Well, due to restrictions on Minis, we were unable to add all the features we felt the first game deserved.  So, the aim with OMG HD Zombies was to upscale the graphics, add trophies and Leaderboards and re-release on PS Vita. Easy, right?

The problem was that once we started the project, I completely failed to shake this little voice at the back of my mind that kept saying, “Why not sneak in some more new stuff too?”  And this is what we came up with:

  • More Graphics! – ALL menus, levels and zombies have been completely redrawn to take advantage of the PS Vita’s lovely OLED screen.
  • More Zombies! – We’ve thrown three new zombie classes into the mix and tripled all death animations.  So…much…gore…
  • More Levels! – We’ve added 19 new levels and totally reworked all existing levels. That’s 100 new levels of zombie-slaying action!
  • More Upgrades! – 100 in total to be precise!
  • Now with added Trophies! – 12 bronze, silver and gold Trophies to unlock.
  • And Leaderboards! – Compare scores with your PSN Friends or the best zombie slayers worldwide.
  • More Touchy-Feely! – Choose between traditional controls or the all-new touch method.
  • More Comics! – 2 brand new endings plus we reveal more of the game’s story in our extended comic book intro.
  • All-new Prestige Mode! – Complete the game to 100% Platinum standard and Prestige the game, resetting progress in return for a Leaderboard multiplier.  “Prestige” up to 20 times for some truly HUGE scores!

If you would like more details of some of the great new features in OMG HD Zombies you can find out more about them by checking out some of our earlier blogposts starting from the 18th April.

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week, but until then you can join us on our Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google+  pages where we will be posting all the news from Laughing Jackal.
