Hungry Giraffe is free when you buy a new Xperia

Hi everyone.  It’s just over a week since OMG HD Zombies! was released in North America and we’re already seeing some great reviews, such as this one from PS3blog.net who called it “an excellent game that can be yours for a paltry price” and scored it 89%

Meanwhile, over at Defunct Games OMG HD Zombies! was awarded an A in their review, where they said:  "There's a reason that all this is so addictive, but I can't quite put my finger on it.”  They also took an in-depth look at just how much skill is involved in playing OMG HD Zombies! in episode 48 of They Said What?!?

OMG HD Zombies! is available now for $4.99 in North America and just €3.59 (£2.99) in Europe.

In other news, Sony have recently announced that until December 31st 2013, anyone who purchases an Xperia Z Smartphone or Xperia Tablet Z, and downloads the Xperia Privilege app from the Google Play Store will receive 10 free PlayStation Mobile games, including our very own Hungry Giraffe. The offer also provides 6 free movies, including Elysium, and a 60-day Music Unlimited trial.  Sounds like a good deal! Anyone who’s interested in this offer should check out the post on the SCEA PlayStation Blog, here.

Moving on to Flame Over and it’s been another busy week for the LJ team.  Over on the programming side of things the guys are still reworking the code to optimise the core technology for Vita.  This is about as unglamorous a task as it sounds, but is fundamentally important for the game so it’s all good. ^^

In more glamorous news, most of the rest of the team here is hard at work creating assets and designing the various rooms Blaze will be dashing and splashing through.  So far we’ve designed over 100 rooms although there are still plenty more to come.

The design process for Flame Over is another area of the game that’s been given an overhaul to produce the very best results for you guys when you finally get to play it. Originally we were intending to randomly generate rooms at the most basic level, however we’ve decided it’s best to add the human touch and hand craft our rooms and corridors, using our random level generator to stitch them together in endless configurations. We have lots of options in our editor to configure rooms to get different level layouts, be they fast-paced mazes or more panic-filled A-to-B journeys between the inferno and your nearest water source. With our revised approach we get the best of both worlds: design by humans, assembly by the magic gubbins inside your Vita!

All this adds up to better gameplay and – we hope – more optimal performance, important for the pick-up-and-play design philosophy of a fast-paced fire fighting Roguelike. ;)

We’re making great progress but there’s still a long, fun-filled road ahead of us. We’ll try to keep you posted as often as possible along the way. On which note, expect some more screens in the near(ish!) future. Yay! ^^

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week, but until then you can join us on our Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google+  pages where we will be posting all the news from Laughing Jackal.
