Work experience at Laughing Jackal

Jo has been doing his work experience with us all this week and for today’s blogpost he’s written about his time here.

I had the great opportunity to come down to Braintree for the week to have my work experience with the team at Laughing Jackal, an experience I’m sure many would pay to have.

The chance to see how a video games company works, no matter how small they might be, has always been of great interest to me. The unique prospect of not only coming to see the team work, but to also actively work with the team has combined into a week I most certainly will not forget.

Albeit a small company, Laughing Jackal have come up with some incredibly fun, fast-paced and addictive games, some of which I hope to pick up in the near future. Their flagship title (and first!) for the PS3, Cubixx HD, had to be the most fun I’ve had with a recent video game in a while. The gameplay amounts to ridiculous amounts of carnage and mayhem, amounting to a unique and fun experience for anyone looking for not only a challenge, but something new and fresh from the average “Go here and shoot things till they die” style of gameplay. Would I recommend getting this game? A resounding yes is all I can think of to say. :)

My time with the team has been short, but fun, interesting and, most of all, educational. I have learnt in my short time what kind of qualities and subjects a person needs in order to succeed in this kind of market, something I myself am hoping to get into.

This week has been a great experience, one I definitely won’t forget. Before I sign off, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank some people. :)

I’d like to thank Stephen Morgan for organising this week and making it possible, Alasdair Evans for guiding me throughout the week, my Dad for coming out for the week to stay with me in Braintree, my friends for coping without me, and, most of all, the team at Laughing Jackal, who are an absolutely lovely bunch.

Cheers for reading this. Joe, out. :)
